It could have turned out so differently. There were few chances to be creative in her native Slovakia. But, just two weeks working in a bank convinced Monika, a qualified accountant, that she had to do something different.

In 2001, Monika learnt alongside a florist in Lindfield, West Sussex, mainly creating wedding bouquets, displays and floral décor. By 2010, she had opened her first shop, and customers flocked to Lavender House for Monika’s unusual, unique floral arrangements.

“I work with my customers to find out what they love and help them to have the confidence to find their own style.”

Monika sourced candles, room diffusers, home accessories, decorative items and furniture for her shops – and her eye-catching displays soon led to interiors styling commissions.

“I style homes and commercial premises, like The Black Horse pub in Findon and Butlers bar and restaurant in Arundel. Over the years, I’ve seen some amazing spaces but what I love most is that I have met, and continue to meet, amazing people.”

In 2018, Monika and Milan opened Isla Living to showcase more interiors and decorative objects and her growing range of original, flattering fashion from independent designers in Scandinavia, France, Italy, Germany and England.

“Our customers trust us,” says Monika. “They know we source special pieces and that we only sell what we love.”
